1. Pentatonic Ostinatos - Frank Was A Monster (Organize, Develop, Refine, & Complete Artistic Work)
5th Grade
Process:
- Students took prior knowledge of rhythmic notation from unit 1 to compose an ostinato.
- Students played their rhythm on barred instruments set to a D minor pentatonic melody. Students in groups listened and carefully selected pitches they felt best matched their melodies and wrote the letter names on the worksheet.
- Students then transcribed their melodies onto the staff using Quaver's Marvelous World of Music's QComposer online app. Students were graded using a rubric for product and group performance.
- The ostinatos were put together and featured in a final performance as "live" loop tracks with the story of "Frank Was a Monster Who Wanted to Dance".
